What is a Hollywood smile?

A Hollywood smile is not a single procedure. It is a planned smile makeover in which the teeth visible when you smile — typically 16 to 20 of them — are reshaped and covered with veneers or crowns designed together as one set.

The defining feature is that the result is designed, not accumulated. Your dentist works from photographs and a digital smile design to decide tooth proportions, the shape of the edges, the midline and the curve of the smile line against your lip, then the laboratory makes every unit to that plan. That is why a Hollywood smile looks coherent in a way that individual crowns placed over years never quite do.

Veneers or crowns?

  • Veneers: a thin shell, roughly 0.3–0.7 mm, bonded to the front of the tooth. Requires removing a small amount of enamel. Suitable when the underlying teeth are healthy and reasonably aligned.
  • Crowns: cover the whole tooth and require far more reduction — typically 1–2 mm all round. Needed when a tooth is heavily filled, root-treated, broken down or significantly out of line.
  • Most Hollywood smiles are a mix. Your dentist decides tooth by tooth, and should be able to tell you exactly which of yours need which.

Materials

Materials used in a Hollywood smile
E-max (lithium disilicate) Front teeth, veneers Most natural translucency 10–15 years
Zirconium Back teeth, crowns, bruxism Strong, slightly more opaque 10–20 years
Layered zirconia Full-arch cases Good balance of both 10–15 years
Composite veneers Small corrections, reversible Stains over time 3–7 years

How much does a Hollywood smile cost in Turkey?

A Velsa all-inclusive Hollywood smile in Istanbul costs £2,600–£5,200 depending on the number of units and the material. The same treatment in the UK typically runs £8,000–£20,000.

Velsa all-inclusive dental packages, 2026
Hollywood smile, zirconium £2,600–£3,600 16–20 7
Hollywood smile, E-max £3,400–£5,200 16–20 7
Upper arch only, E-max £1,900–£2,900 8–10 6
Single veneer or crown £150–£260 1 4
Smile makeover with gum contouring £3,100–£5,700 16–20 7

What the package includes

  • Full examination, panoramic X-ray and 3D scan
  • Digital smile design and a trial mock-up
  • All veneers or crowns in your chosen material
  • Temporary teeth for the week between fittings
  • All laboratory work and fitting appointments
  • Six nights in a four-star hotel with breakfast
  • All airport, hotel and clinic transfers
  • A personal English-speaking coordinator
  • A night guard where grinding is a factor
  • Five-year guarantee on materials and workmanship

What is not included

Flights are excluded so you can book your own. Treatment needed before the veneers can be placed — root canals, extractions, implants, gum treatment or bone grafting — is quoted separately once your X-rays have been reviewed. This is the most common reason a quote changes, which is why Velsa asks for a panoramic X-ray before giving you a figure rather than after you arrive.

Bars span the usual range in each market, not a single quoted figure. Non-Turkish figures are indicative market ranges rather than quotes from named providers.

US and UK figures are typically the surgeon and facility only. Flights, accommodation, transfers and follow-up are extra in those markets and included in the Velsa price, which is the comparison that actually matters.

Your own price comes from a written quote after a clinician has reviewed your case. Nothing on this chart is a quote.

Why do patients from the UK, US and Europe choose Turkey?

Patients choose Turkey for lower all-inclusive prices, experienced cosmetic dentists working with their own laboratories, modern private clinics, short waiting times and easy direct flights from most European and many US cities.

Turkey has become one of the world's leading medical travel destinations. According to Turkish industry figures reported in July 2026, the country welcomed around 1.4 million health tourists in 2025, generating over $3 billion in revenue. Cosmetic and implant dentistry is one of the most requested categories.

  • Value: lower operating and living costs mean you pay less for the same standard of treatment.
  • Experience: leading dental clinics in Istanbul complete cosmetic and implant cases every week.
  • Speed: consultations can be arranged online within days, and treatment dates are flexible.
  • Access: most UK and European airports have direct flights of around 3–4 hours.
  • Recovery comfort: you recover in a hotel with a coordinator on hand, rather than managing alone at home.

Every Velsa quote names the dentist, the clinic and the laboratory before you pay, so you can check all three yourself.

Am I a good candidate for a Hollywood smile?

The best candidates have healthy gums, enough sound tooth structure to work with, and want to change several things at once — colour, shape, alignment and proportion — rather than one.

A Hollywood smile is usually suitable if

  • You have discoloured teeth that whitening has not improved, such as tetracycline staining.
  • Your teeth are worn, chipped, uneven in size or shape, or have old discoloured fillings at the front.
  • You have small gaps or mild crowding you do not want to fix with orthodontics.
  • You already have crowns or veneers that need replacing.
  • Your gums are healthy, or any gum disease has been treated first.
  • You accept that preparing the teeth is permanent.

You may need to wait, or consider something else

  • You have untreated gum disease or active decay — both must be dealt with first.
  • Your teeth are significantly crooked: orthodontics gives a better and far more conservative result.
  • Only the colour bothers you and your teeth are otherwise healthy: whitening is cheaper, quicker and removes nothing.
  • You grind your teeth heavily and will not wear a night guard — grinding is the fastest way to break ceramic.
  • You are under 18, or your gums have not finished maturing.

Your Hollywood smile journey in Turkey, day by day

Seven nights in Istanbul with three or four appointments, spaced so the laboratory has time to make your units properly.

  1. 1Before you travel: you send photographs and a recent panoramic X-ray. A dentist reviews them, flags any treatment needed first, and you receive a written fixed quote with a shade and material recommendation.
  2. 2Day 1 — arrival: your driver meets you at Istanbul airport and takes you to the hotel.
  3. 3Day 2 — examination and design: a full clinical examination, new X-rays and a 3D scan. You and your dentist agree tooth shape, length and shade — in daylight, not under clinic lights. Any preliminary treatment such as a root canal or extraction starts today.
  4. 4Day 3 — preparation and temporaries: the teeth are prepared under local anaesthetic, impressions or digital scans are taken, and temporary teeth are fitted. You leave with a working smile, not stumps.
  5. 5Days 4 and 5 — laboratory work: your units are made. These are your free days in Istanbul; you are wearing temporaries and eating softer food.
  6. 6Day 6 — trial fit: the units are tried in without cement. This is the point to speak up about shade, length or shape. Adjustments go back to the lab the same day.
  7. 7Day 7 — final fitting: the veneers or crowns are bonded permanently, the bite is checked and adjusted, and your night guard is fitted if you need one.
  8. 8Day 8 — fly home: a final check and your transfer to the airport, with your guarantee documents and care instructions.
  9. 9After you are home: your coordinator checks in at one week and one month, and your dentist reviews photographs at six and twelve months.

What you can check before you pay

The hospital

Accreditation
JCI-accredited, with the certificate number given to you in writing before any deposit.
Licence
Turkish Ministry of Health licence, named and verifiable independently rather than described in general terms.
Intensive care
On site, in the same building, for every procedure under general anaesthetic. Not "available nearby".
Anaesthesia
A consultant anaesthetist present throughout the operation — not supervising several theatres from elsewhere.
Nursing
24-hour nursing, with an English-speaking nurse on each shift and an interpreter for clinical conversations.

Photos are not proof

Photographs show you the rooms; they do not tell you whether there is an intensive care unit behind them. The facility is named to you in writing before you pay, with its licence and accreditation numbers, so you can verify it as well as see it.

If you want to see the building in person, ask — we can usually arrange a visit before you decide, and a provider unwilling to let you look around is telling you something.

How we verify a facility

How is a Hollywood smile fitted?

Under local anaesthetic across two main appointments, with a trial fitting in between so nothing is bonded until you have seen it in your own mouth.

  1. 1Digital smile design: photographs, video of you speaking and smiling, and a 3D scan are used to design the proportions. The smile line is matched to your lower lip, and the midline to your face rather than to your teeth.
  2. 2Mock-up: the proposed design is tried on your teeth in temporary material so you can see the shape and length before anything is removed. Ask for this — it is the last fully reversible step.
  3. 3Preparation: under local anaesthetic, each tooth is reduced by the amount that material requires — a fraction of a millimetre for a veneer, considerably more for a crown.
  4. 4Impressions: digital scans or silicone impressions record the prepared teeth, the opposing teeth and how your bite closes.
  5. 5Shade selection: taken in natural daylight with your dentist. Darker necks and more translucent edges are what make a result read as teeth rather than as tiles.
  6. 6Temporaries: hand-made temporary teeth are fitted so you can eat, speak and judge the length over the following days.
  7. 7Laboratory work: a technician mills or presses each unit, then layers and characterises it by hand. This takes two to three days and is where the money actually goes.
  8. 8Trial fit: units are placed without cement and checked for fit, contact, bite and appearance. Changes are made now, not after bonding.
  9. 9Bonding: each unit is etched, the tooth is prepared and the restoration is bonded with resin cement and cured. The bite is refined and the margins polished.

Hollywood smile recovery and settling in

There is no real recovery period, but expect sensitivity for a week or two, a short adjustment to the feel of the new teeth, and occasionally a few days of altered speech.

  • Days 1–3: gum tenderness around the margins and sensitivity to hot and cold, which is normal after preparation. Simple painkillers are enough.
  • Week 1: sensitivity settles. Eat softer food and avoid very hot or very cold drinks while it does.
  • Weeks 1–2: your tongue adjusts to the new tooth length and shape. A slight lisp is common at first and almost always resolves as you adapt.
  • Weeks 2–4: the bite settles. If anything feels high or catches when you close, contact your coordinator — a small adjustment takes minutes and prevents a fracture later.
  • Month 1 onwards: fully normal function. The guarantee is only valid if you attend routine check-ups and hygienist appointments at home.

Is it safe to have a Hollywood smile in Turkey?

Dental treatment in Turkey is safe in a properly equipped clinic with a qualified dentist and an in-house laboratory. The real risks are over-treatment and poor planning rather than infection.

Velsa works with licensed dental clinics in Istanbul whose dentists are registered with the Turkish Ministry of Health, and which run their own laboratories, so adjustments happen in hours rather than days. You are given your dentist's name and registration number before you pay anything.

Risks you should know about

  • Irreversible enamel loss: the teeth will need covering permanently from now on.
  • Nerve damage: deep preparation can inflame the pulp, and a small proportion of prepared teeth later need root canal treatment.
  • Sensitivity: usually temporary, occasionally long-lasting.
  • Chipping or fracture: particularly in grinders, and the main reason a night guard is fitted.
  • Gum recession: over the years this can expose a margin at the gum line.
  • Bite problems: a poorly adjusted bite causes jaw ache and accelerates wear.
  • Debonding: a veneer can come off and usually needs re-bonding.
  • Colour mismatch: ceramic does not change colour, so any remaining natural teeth will drift away from it over time.

Ask for your treatment plan, X-rays and material certificates in writing before you fly home. They matter if your dentist at home ever has to work on these teeth, and Velsa provides them as standard.

Can a Hollywood smile be combined with other treatments?

Usually it has to be. Gum contouring, implants, whitening of the lower teeth and root canal work are often part of the same plan, and are done in a sequence that matters.

Sequence is everything in dentistry. Gum disease is treated before anything else; implants and bone grafts need months to integrate before a crown goes on; gum contouring is done before impressions so the laboratory works to the final gum line. A clinic that does these in the wrong order produces a result that fails early.

Commonly combined with

  • Gum contouring: reshaping the gum line, usually with a laser, where a gummy smile would otherwise make the teeth look short. Done before impressions.
  • Teeth whitening: used on the lower teeth so they match the new uppers, if you are only treating the upper arch.
  • Dental implants: for missing teeth. These need 3–6 months to integrate, so a full plan involving implants is two trips.
  • Root canal treatment: where a tooth is already infected or the nerve is compromised by preparation.
  • Night guard: not optional if you grind.

If your plan needs implants, be sceptical of any clinic that promises to finish everything in one week. Bone takes months to integrate around an implant, and nothing shortens that.

How to prepare for your Hollywood smile

Send a recent panoramic X-ray before you book, have any outstanding dental work assessed, decide on a shade in advance, and plan to eat softly for a week.

  • Panoramic X-ray: have one taken at home and send it before paying a deposit. It is the only way to get a quote that will not change.
  • Existing dental work: tell your dentist about old root canals, crowns, implants and any tooth that has ever been painful.
  • Medication: mention blood thinners and bisphosphonates in particular, which matter if an extraction is needed.
  • Shade: look at real examples rather than renders, and decide how white is too white for your skin tone and age. A shade that photographs well can look conspicuous in person.
  • Packing list: soft foods for the temporary phase, your regular medication, and a toothbrush with soft bristles.

Hollywood smile results and how long they last

E-max veneers typically last 10 to 15 years and zirconium crowns 10 to 20, provided your gums stay healthy and you protect them from grinding. Ceramic does not stain, but it also does not change colour as the rest of your teeth do.

What fails first is almost never the ceramic. It is the tooth underneath and the gum around it. Decay at the margin, gum recession exposing an edge, or a fractured unit in a patient who grinds are the realistic failure modes, and all three are far more about daily care than about the material you chose.

Treat them like natural teeth with slightly more respect: brush twice daily, floss or use interdental brushes around every margin, see a hygienist twice a year, and do not open packaging or bite nails with your front teeth. Choose shade carefully — a slightly warmer, more translucent result ages much better than the brightest option. Our dental before and after gallery shows this across consented cases as they are added.

FAQ

Hollywood smile in Turkey: frequently asked questions

At Velsa, £2,600–£5,200 as an all-inclusive package depending on material and number of units. That covers the examination, X-rays, digital smile design, all veneers or crowns, temporaries, seven hotel nights, transfers and a five-year guarantee. Flights and any preliminary treatment are extra.

Seven nights in Istanbul with three or four appointments. The gap in the middle is the laboratory making your units, and it is not padding — rushing lab work is the fastest route to a poor fit.

Usually 16 to 20 — the teeth visible when you smile broadly, which for most people is eight to ten on each arch. Some patients treat the upper arch only, which costs less and works well if your lower teeth are a reasonable colour.

The preparation is done under local anaesthetic so you should feel nothing at the time. Afterwards expect gum tenderness and sensitivity to hot and cold for a week or two, manageable with simple painkillers.

No. Preparing teeth for veneers or crowns removes enamel permanently, and those teeth will need covering for the rest of your life. This is the single most important thing to understand before booking.

Most natural-looking results sit around shades BL3 to A1. The very brightest shades photograph well but read as artificial in person, particularly against older skin. Choose in daylight, with your dentist, and look at real patient photographs rather than renders.

It depends on each tooth. Veneers suit healthy, reasonably aligned teeth and remove far less structure. Crowns are needed where a tooth is heavily filled, root-treated or badly out of line. Most Hollywood smiles use a combination, and your dentist should be able to tell you which teeth need which, and why.

E-max veneers typically 10 to 15 years, zirconium crowns 10 to 20. Longevity depends far more on gum health, hygiene and whether you grind than on the material.

Velsa packages carry a five-year guarantee on materials and workmanship — debonding, fracture not caused by trauma, and manufacturing defects. It does not cover damage from grinding without a night guard, accidents, or decay resulting from poor hygiene, and it requires you to attend routine check-ups at home.

Yes, after the first week or two of sensitivity. Avoid biting very hard items with your front teeth — ice, bones, nut shells, packaging — which is sensible advice for natural teeth too.

That is exactly what the trial fitting on day six is for. The units are placed without cement so you can see them in your own mouth, in daylight, before anything is bonded. Changes made at that stage go back to the in-house lab the same day.

Quite possibly, and a good dentist will tell you. If your teeth are healthy and well aligned and only the colour bothers you, whitening achieves a lot and removes nothing. If they are crooked, orthodontics gives a better and far more conservative result. Veneers make most sense when you want to change shape, size, colour and proportion together.
