What is exosome hair therapy?
Exosomes are nanoscale vesicles that cells release to communicate with one another, carrying proteins, growth factors and messenger RNA. In hair treatment, exosomes derived from stem cells are injected into the scalp with the aim of signalling dormant follicles back into a growth phase.
The biology is genuinely interesting. Exosomes are how cells send instructions to their neighbours, and laboratory work shows that exosomes from mesenchymal stem cells can push hair follicle cells from the resting phase into the growth phase, and can promote the blood vessel formation follicles depend on. That is a plausible mechanism, and it is why the treatment has attracted attention.
The gap is between laboratory plausibility and clinical proof. Most published work is in cell cultures or in mice. Human trials exist but are small, often industry-funded, and use varying products with no standardisation of dose or source. We offer exosome therapy because some patients want it and it appears safe — not because we can show you the evidence base that exists for minoxidil.
Exosomes against the alternatives
| Treatment | Evidence strength | Cost per session | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minoxidil | Strong, decades of data | £10–£25 per month | Licensed drug |
| Finasteride | Strong, decades of data | £10–£20 per month | Licensed drug |
| PRP | Moderate, multiple RCTs | £120–£180 | Your own blood |
| Mesotherapy | Weak | £70–£110 | Mixed cocktail |
| Exosomes | Early, mostly preclinical | £300–£550 | Lab-derived product |
How exosome therapy is delivered
Into the dermis
Signalling vesicles placed into the dermis
Around the follicle
The target is the follicle and the blood supply feeding it
A course, not one visit
Usually 1–3 sessions — the evidence is early and we say so
How much does exosome therapy cost in Turkey?
Velsa charges £300–£550 per session depending on the product and dose. The UK equivalent is typically £800–£1,800 per session, where it is offered at all.
| Treatment | Price (GBP) | Sessions | Interval |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single exosome session, standard dose | £300–£400 | 1 | — |
| Single session, high dose | £420–£550 | 1 | — |
| Course of two | £580–£750 | 2 | Three months |
| Exosomes with a hair transplant | £280–£400 | 1 | With your procedure |
| PRP session, for comparison | £120–£180 | 1 | Monthly |
What the session includes
- Consultation and scalp assessment
- The exosome product, with batch and source documented
- Topical anaesthetic or a cooling device
- Injection or microneedling delivery
- Written aftercare instructions
- Standardised before and after photographs
- A personal English-speaking coordinator
- Honest review of your overall hair plan
Is it worth three times the price of PRP?
On current evidence, we do not think so for most patients, and we would rather say that than take the money quietly. PRP costs a third as much and has considerably better clinical support. If you have tried minoxidil and PRP and want to try something else, exosomes are a reasonable next experiment. As a starting point, they are an expensive one.

Bars span the usual range in each market, not a single quoted figure. Non-Turkish figures are indicative market ranges rather than quotes from named providers.
US and UK figures are typically the surgeon and facility only. Flights, accommodation, transfers and follow-up are extra in those markets and included in the Velsa price, which is the comparison that actually matters.
Your own price comes from a written quote after a clinician has reviewed your case. Nothing on this chart is a quote.
Why do patients from the UK, US and Europe choose Turkey?
Patients choose Turkey for lower all-inclusive prices, experienced hair restoration teams who perform transplants every day, modern private clinics, short waiting times and easy direct flights from most European and many US cities.
Turkey has become one of the world's leading medical travel destinations. According to Turkish industry figures reported in July 2026, the country welcomed around 1.4 million health tourists in 2025, generating over $3 billion in revenue. Hair transplantation is the treatment Turkey is best known for.
- Value: lower operating and living costs mean you pay less for the same standard of treatment.
- Experience: leading clinics in Istanbul perform hair transplants every day.
- Speed: consultations can be arranged online within days, and treatment dates are flexible.
- Access: most UK and European airports have direct flights of around 3–4 hours.
- Recovery comfort: you recover in a hotel with a coordinator on hand, rather than managing alone at home.
Every Velsa quote names the surgeon who will design your hairline and the clinic where the work is done, before you pay anything.
Am I a good candidate for exosome therapy?
Exosome therapy may suit patients who have already tried the evidence-backed options and want to try something further — not those looking for a first treatment.
Exosome therapy may be reasonable if
- You have already tried minoxidil, finasteride where appropriate, and PRP.
- You have early to moderate thinning with follicles still present.
- You understand the evidence is early and are comfortable with that.
- You want to support a hair transplant and budget is not the constraint.
- You cannot tolerate minoxidil or finasteride and want an alternative to try.
- You have female pattern loss, where medical options are more limited.
Something else will serve you better if
- You have not tried minoxidil: it costs a fraction as much and has decades of evidence.
- You are visibly bald anywhere: no injectable treatment reaches a follicle that has gone.
- Budget matters: PRP costs a third as much with better support.
- You want predictable results: exosome outcomes are not yet predictable.
- You have a scarring alopecia, where the follicle has been replaced by fibrous tissue.
- You have an untreated cause such as iron deficiency or thyroid disease — treat that first.

Is exosome therapy right for me?
Answer 6 quick questions to see whether exosomes make sense for you, or whether your money is better spent elsewhere. No personal details needed to see your result.
Your exosome session, step by step
Thirty to forty-five minutes, no downtime, and back to normal activity the same day.
- 1Before: no blood thinners for a few days beforehand, and arrive with clean hair and no product.
- 2Assessment: your scalp is examined and the treatment area mapped. Standardised photographs are taken with the same parting and lighting.
- 3Reviewing the product: you are shown the vial, its manufacturer and batch number. Ask for this to be recorded in your notes.
- 4Numbing: a topical anaesthetic or a cooling device is applied across the treatment area.
- 5Reconstitution: the product is prepared immediately before use. Exosomes are typically supplied freeze-dried and reconstituted on the day.
- 6Delivery: either injected with a fine needle at roughly one centimetre intervals into the dermis, or applied topically alongside microneedling to create channels. Injection is the more common approach.
- 7Afterwards: mild redness for a few hours. No dressing, no downtime.
- 8The course: usually one to three sessions three months apart, depending on the product and your response.

What you can check before you pay
The hospital
- Accreditation
- JCI-accredited, with the certificate number given to you in writing before any deposit.
- Licence
- Turkish Ministry of Health licence, named and verifiable independently rather than described in general terms.
- Intensive care
- On site, in the same building, for every procedure under general anaesthetic. Not "available nearby".
- Anaesthesia
- A consultant anaesthetist present throughout the operation — not supervising several theatres from elsewhere.
- Nursing
- 24-hour nursing, with an English-speaking nurse on each shift and an interpreter for clinical conversations.
Photos are not proof
Photographs show you the rooms; they do not tell you whether there is an intensive care unit behind them. The facility is named to you in writing before you pay, with its licence and accreditation numbers, so you can verify it as well as see it.
If you want to see the building in person, ask — we can usually arrange a visit before you decide, and a provider unwilling to let you look around is telling you something.
How we verify a facilityHow is exosome therapy delivered?
Either by direct injection into the dermis or by microneedling with topical application. Injection places the product more reliably where follicles sit.
- 1Product selection: the exosome preparation is chosen, with its source, particle count and concentration documented in your notes.
- 2Reconstitution: freeze-dried exosomes are reconstituted in sterile diluent immediately before use. They degrade quickly once reconstituted, so this happens in the room rather than in advance.
- 3Mapping: the thinning area is divided into a grid so the product is distributed evenly.
- 4Numbing: topical anaesthetic for fifteen to twenty minutes, or a cooling device during treatment.
- 5Injection method: fine needle injections at 1 cm intervals into the dermis at 2–4 mm depth, placing the product at the level of the follicle bulb.
- 6Microneedling method: a device creates micro-channels across the scalp and the product is applied topically to be absorbed through them. Less precise, and some product is inevitably lost.
- 7Distribution: the scalp is gently massaged to spread the product evenly.
- 8Documentation: the batch number and volume used are recorded, which matters for an unregulated product category.
Some clinics combine exosomes with PRP in the same session. This is plausible but unstudied, and it makes it impossible to tell which component produced any result you get.
After exosome therapy: what to expect
There is no downtime. Expect mild redness for a few hours and do not wash your hair until the next day.
- Hours 0–4: mild redness and tenderness across the treated area. Settles within a few hours.
- Day 1: do not wash your hair for 24 hours. No hats pressing on the scalp.
- Days 2–3: normal washing and styling resume.
- Week 1: avoid saunas, steam rooms and swimming for 48 hours; after that, normal activity.
- Months 1–2: no visible change. Expected.
- Months 2–3: any effect typically begins to appear as reduced shedding before visible thickening.
- Months 4–6: the point at which the treatment should be judged against baseline photographs.
Is exosome therapy safe?
Reported adverse effects are minimal and comparable to any scalp injection. The genuine concern is regulatory: these are unapproved products with no long-term safety data in this application.
Velsa works with licensed clinics in Istanbul and doctors registered with the Turkish Ministry of Health, using products from identified manufacturers with batch documentation. We do not use unsourced or unlabelled preparations, and we record what was given.
What to be aware of
- Limited long-term data: the main honest caveat, for safety as well as efficacy.
- Unregulated product quality: source, purity and particle count vary widely between manufacturers.
- Pain during injection: mild, comparable to PRP or mesotherapy.
- Redness and tenderness: for a few hours after the session.
- Bruising at injection sites: minor and self-limiting.
- Allergic or immune reaction: theoretically possible with a biological product from another source.
- Infection: very rare with sterile technique.
- No response: a realistic possibility given the state of the evidence.
Exosome therapy is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in active scalp infection, or in anyone with an active malignancy — the signalling pathways exosomes act on are not ones to stimulate in that context without specialist advice.

Can exosome therapy be combined with other treatments?
Yes, and it should only ever be used as an addition to a plan built on treatments with better evidence behind them.
The sensible order is: investigate the cause, then minoxidil or finasteride, then PRP, then consider exosomes if you want to go further. Starting with the most expensive and least proven option is a common and avoidable mistake.
Commonly combined with
- Minoxidil and finasteride: the evidence-backed foundation that any adjunct should sit on.
- PRP: better evidence and a third of the price. If you can only do one injectable, do this one. See PRP hair therapy.
- Hair transplant: some surgeons use exosomes at the time of surgery to support graft survival. Plausible, and not yet proven.
- Mesotherapy: a cheaper injectable with its own thin evidence base. See hair mesotherapy.
If a clinic recommends exosomes before asking whether you have tried minoxidil, or without looking at your blood results, they are selling the most profitable item on the menu rather than treating your hair.
How to prepare for an exosome session
Arrive with clean hair, avoid blood thinners for a few days, and ask for the product documentation before anything is injected.
- Ask for documentation: manufacturer, batch number and particle count, recorded in your notes. This is the single most useful thing you can do.
- Clean hair: wash the morning of the session and use no gel, wax or dry shampoo.
- Blood thinners: avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatories for a few days beforehand to reduce bruising.
- Baseline photographs: insist on standardised before photographs. Without them you cannot judge an expensive treatment.
- Medical history: declare pregnancy, breastfeeding, any active malignancy and any immune condition.
- Realistic framing: decide in advance what result would make this worth repeating, and judge it at four to six months against the photographs.
Exosome therapy results
Reported outcomes in small studies and clinical use are comparable to or slightly better than PRP, appearing from two to three months. The honest position is that we do not yet know how reliable this is.
Some patients respond well, with reduced shedding and improved hair calibre visible in standardised photographs at four to six months. Others notice nothing. Because there is no standardised product, dose or protocol, it is currently impossible to say with confidence who will fall into which group — and anyone claiming otherwise is ahead of the evidence.
Our position: this is a promising treatment with a plausible mechanism and an immature evidence base, priced well above the alternatives. We offer it, we document what we use, and we tell patients plainly that minoxidil, finasteride and PRP should come first. If you have done all three and want to try something more, exosomes are a reasonable experiment with your own money and your own expectations. Judge it at six months against baseline photographs. As consented cases are added, our hair transplant before and after gallery shows our cases.
FAQ
Exosome hair therapy in Turkey: frequently asked questions
At Velsa, £300–£550 per session depending on product and dose. The UK equivalent is typically £800–£1,800 where it is offered at all. PRP, for comparison, is £120–£180 per session at Velsa.
Nanoscale vesicles that cells release to communicate with each other, carrying proteins, growth factors and messenger RNA. In hair treatment, exosomes derived from stem cells are injected to signal dormant follicles into a growth phase.
The laboratory science is plausible and small human studies are encouraging, but most published work is in cell cultures or animals. There is no standardised product, dose or protocol. We offer it because some patients want it, not because we can show you the evidence base that exists for minoxidil.
Not as a medicine for hair loss in the UK, EU or US. The FDA has issued warnings about unapproved exosome products. They are legally available in Turkey as a cosmetic or biological preparation. This does not make them dangerous, but it does mean the efficacy work has not been done.
Possibly, but it is not established. PRP costs a third as much, uses your own blood and has multiple randomised trials behind it. On current evidence we would recommend PRP first for most patients.
Usually one to three, three months apart, depending on the product. This is fewer than PRP, which partly offsets the higher per-session cost — though the total is still higher.
Most products are derived from cultured mesenchymal stem cells, often from umbilical cord tissue or adipose tissue, then purified. Source and purity vary considerably between manufacturers, which is why you should ask for the documentation.
Mild, comparable to PRP or mesotherapy. A series of small injections across the scalp under topical anaesthetic or with a cooling device.
Reduced shedding at around two to three months, with any visible change appearing from three to six. Judge it at six months against standardised baseline photographs, which you should insist on at the first session.
No. Like every injectable scalp treatment, exosomes act on follicles that are still present. Where the scalp is completely bald the follicle has gone, and only a transplant replaces it.
No. Minoxidil costs a fraction as much with decades of evidence, and PRP costs a third as much with multiple trials behind it. Exosomes make sense as something to try after those, not instead of them.
Because that is where the evidence is. We would rather you spent £150 on PRP that probably helps than £500 on something that might. If you have already done the proven things and want to go further, we are happy to treat you — with accurate expectations.
